New Patient Health Checks

is a free health assessment for new patients registering with a GP practice. It aims to understand a patient’s overall health and identify any potential risks or future health issues. This check helps GPs provide better care by having a comprehensive understanding of the patient’s health background and lifestyle.

What to expect during the check:

  • Initial Information: The check usually begins with a discussion of your past medical history, lifestyle (including smoking, alcohol consumption, and physical activity), and family history.
  • Physical Measurements: You can expect measurements like height, weight, and blood pressure.
  • Blood Tests: Blood samples may be taken to check cholesterol levels and potentially for other tests like blood glucose if diabetes is suspected.
  • Follow-up Appointments:Some individuals may need follow-up appointments for further tests, monitoring, or treatment.

Why is it important?

  • Early Risk Identification: The check helps identify potential health risks early on, allowing for proactive management and prevention strategies. If you are a newly registered patient please telephone the Surgery to make a health check appointment.
