How do I order a repeat prescription?

NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App) – Anyone over 13 can register on their computer, tablet or phone. Using the NHS account allows you to request medication anytime of day. It is also the easiest, most convenient and quickest way to request medication.

Repeat Prescription Slip – tick the medication(s) you require only, from the list attached to the prescription form, then post it or bring it in to the surgery

Written – We will accept a hand written note with your repeat prescription requests, please ensure that your full name, date of birth and the full medication name is clearly written.

We do not accept repeat medication requests over the phone or via email

We do not accept prescription requests for items more than 7 days early or medications that you have not had for more than 12 months

Collecting your prescription

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy. Click to Find your nearest pharmacy

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time by using:

  • Your NHS App, NHS Account or the website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • At any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, it is important that you have a regular review with one of our knowledgeable clinical pharmacists. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

Prescription charges

From April 1st 2024, the NHS charge for a single prescription item will be £9.90 for those aged 18-60 with no exemption.

  • 3-month PPC costs £32.05
  • 12-month PPC costs £114.50

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from, do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) – women ages 16-64 years
  • Shingles – ages 18 years and over
  • Impetigo – aged 1 year and over
  • Infected Insect bites – aged 1 year and over
  • Sore throat – aged 5 years and over
  • Sinusitis (Swelling of sinuses)- aged 12 years and over
  • Ear ache – aged 1 to 17 years

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Find a pharmacy

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff.
